Search Engines(SE) - More precisely a web based search engine is an application that indexes and maintain a record of web pages over the Internet and let the users “search” the information. Google, Alta vista, Bing, Ask are few popular example of SEs.
Bots - Bot/robot/spider or crawler is a complex algorithm/program used by SEs to “find” and “index” web pages into their data base. It moves from one web page to another via hyper link.
Search Query - Word(s) entered to search the web is called search query.
Keywords - These are simple words for which web pages are being indexed in SE data base.
Search Engine Page Results(SEPRs) - The pages SE returned in result of some search being executed are called search engine result pages. You can see a SERP generated for keyword “Blogriser.com”

SERP Ranking - SE rank web pages from 1 to … for particular keywords using their page ranking algorithms which can be based on relevance, popularity or quality of content etc. Google’s first page for any search query return top ten web pages for that particular query. Web page listed at the first position is termed as SERP #1.
Search Engine Friendly URLs - URLs without symbols like &,%,? etc are more likely to get indexed in SE rather than their dynamic coutnerpart. For example www.blogriser.com/tag-cloud is SE friendly url rather than having something like www.blogriser.com?page=tag-cloud which got ? and =.
Search Engine Optimization(SEO) - It is a technique used to optimize web pages to get high ranking in SEPRs.
